In January this year myself and my Husband finished our travels in India. We flew from Singapore to Mumbai then onto Deli. We spent 3 days with our driver Naresh on the Golden triangle before heading to Goa for a couple of weeks.
India is such a magical place, bursting with colour and energy. Each way you look your senses are rewarded with smells and stunning scenery. I did not expect to fall in love with the country this much. Nothing prepares you for driving down a small street and seeing 3 huge and I mean HUGE Indian elephants making their way to a wedding in full costume, and the magic of drinking fresh Masala Chai every day with beautiful flavoured food.
The streets are bursting with traffic and people, even crossing the road is a new experience. Among the traffic are cows and bikes, we never once saw an accident. The traffic is chaos but it works, tuk tuk rides are so much fun, squeezing through the gaps and dodging the animals.
Visiting the Taj Mahal was my personal highlight, I have wanted to visit here since I first found a book in Primary school about India. I wore traditional clothes for the day and received lots of positive praise for this as you can see in one of my photographs. The palace was breathtaking even though it was quite misty that day but I think it just adds to the beauty.
Goa was our final stop before heading back to Yorkshire, and it was beautiful. Cute white 17th century churches are dotted around among the temples. Cows are King here, wondering the streets and even sometimes even popping into a restaurants. Streets are lined with small stalls selling everything from clothes, jewelry and spices. There is also an amazing saturday night market that has live music and a bar.
